Bio1986
Music studies start at the local "Musikschule". Starting on recorder Andreas quickly switches to clarinet and piano and takes up the saxophone autodidactically.
Andreas Rapp has earned numerous prizes for his classical interpretations on clarinet. 1996
With his saxophone playing improving quickly Andreas joins a couple of bands in the southwest of Germany, among them the State All Star Bigband of Baden-Württemberg.
1996
At the Landeswettbewerb "Jugend Jazzt" in 1996 Andreas Rapp is rewarded a special prize for his "Duo Elastique".
Late 90s
Andreas tours Europe and South-East-Asia with several bands. His own quartet is also being offered an appearance in Great Britain.
1999
Andreas enters College in Mannheim. His studies emphasize classical clarinet, conducting and music theory including ear training.
2000
Additionally to the classical oriented studies Andreas takes up is jazz saxophone studies in Mannheim.
2001
Andreas becomes a proud scholar of the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes).
2003
After having finished his clarinet studies in Mannheim Andreas works with several orchestras in Germany before heading for New York.
He gets a scholarship at the well renowned New School University and takes lessons with George Garzone, Seamus Blake, Lew Tabackin and Vincent Herring among many others. He also focuses on ear training (Armen Donalian) and composition (Bill Kirchner).
2004
Starting in 2004 Andreas works as a teaching assistant at the New School University in Rory Stuart’s class for rhythm analysis.
2005
After having returned to Germany Andreas works as an instructor for saxophone, jazz improvisation and as a choir conductor.
2007
"File under Jazz", the first album of the Andreas Rapp Quartet gets published by "Neuklang" and is acclaimed by the national press.
